Best suited for experienced sailors, this course describes the various crew positions, roles and duties of each person on board during manoeuvres. There are several critical positions on a keelboat, which includes the helm person, tactician , navigator, grinder or trimmer, cockpit hand or office person, mast hand and bowman. This course also covers an introduction to yacht racing and the progress of a race at a local club. 

 

The course objectives includes:

  • Learning crew positions and improving team work
  • Understanding roles and responsibilities  during manoeuvres
  • Distributing crew weight for boat performance
  • Recognizing basic hand signals
  • Understanding racing rules
  • Observing  racing starting sequence and flag signals
